Guests were introduced, including today’s speakers, Hillary Carpenter, Justin (the Principal of Gilbert Public Schools, Lupita and her mom Carla, Sandy (Lupita’s school counselor) and her husband, Captain John Birks, and Sandrine, a Rotarian from France. 
 
For today’s raffle, the winner of the small pot was John Bunyard, who then drew the Ace of clubs, so he won the big pot!
 
Next, Kayla Mudge announced that Westwood Interact President, Amyla Buchhannon, was awarded as one of Mesa’s Student Citizens of the Year and passed a congratulatory note for club members to sign.
 
Andy Bradford collected Happy Bucks:
  • Chad Reid announced that Toastmasters will host an interview skills workshop next week on Thursday.
  • John Pennypacker announced the District Spring Training Baseball event.
  • Ed Koeneman announced the Glamour Gala at Aster Senior Center, which will be on Wednesday, Feb 11th. Volunteers are needed.
  • President Kayla thanked everybody that attended the RYE fundraiser dinner last Saturday.
  • Deb Koeneman was happy to announce that our granddaughter was born on January 23rd.
  • Liz Paulus was happy that Jay is over his cold, and she announced that Abe Feder is looking for people to join him on a trip to Hermosillo, Mexico, for the Microcredit program.
  • Jim Schmidt was happy to have completed his last official DG visit.
  • Polly Cady was happy to have people in the club who do both home maintenance and health maintenance.
  • Captain John Birks was happy to note that the Salvation is starting their youth development program today.
  • Colleen Coons was happy that the McKinney Vento students were earning their stipends.
  • Brian Harvey was happy that Rotarians are a group of people who make the world a more peaceful.
  • Hilary was happy to have gone on the Guaymas trip.
  • Harry Grossman was happy to announce that he had lost some weight.
  • Don LaBarge was happy to announce that Dick Myren is doing better.
  • Ed Koeneman told Warren’s joke today!
President Kayla made some more announcements:
  • The Gilbert Rotary’s Valentine’s Trivia event has been cancelled.
  • March 7th is Club Leadership Academy (CLA), and there will be an RLI 1 that day.
  • March 20th is the District Spring Training event.
  • May 1-2 is the District Conference, which will be held in Mesa.
  • The annual Sponsorship program is also coming up.
Connie Bunyard introduced Lupita, along with her mother, principal, and school counselor. This is the girl for whom a chain of Rotarians from our club procured a motorized cart.

The speakers today were Tiana and Tracy Klimczak from Sunmed CBD, who educated the club about CBD’s uses for wellness.

 
They also invited club members to attend their Wellness Weekend (March 12-15), where they will be giving away $200 worth of wellness items.
